Lightsource Renewable Energy and Solarcentury build 5MW solar park for waste treatment plant

Date£º2012/9/19

Lightsource Renewable Energy, a UK-based developer of large-scale PV projects, and Solarcentury have completed a 5MW utility-scale solar park in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, UK, to power a waste treatment plant, as reported by our sister website Solar Power Portal.

The solar park is equipped with 20,000 solar modules which will generate around 4,500MWh of solar power annually. The output will be fed into power AmeyCespa¡¯s Mechanical Biological Treatment plant, which has become the first waste treatment plant in the UK to be powered by the sun. The 5MW PV facility will provide around 70% of the plant¡¯s electricity demand.

The waste treatment plant is purchasing the solar power under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) as negotiated with Lightsource Renewable Energy.
